Active Southampton Well Being Fund

Active Southampton have been awarded £5,000 for the Well Being Fund in 2010/2011 by SHIOW through ‘Chances 4 Change’ and the ‘Big Lottery Fund’ to implement physical activity projects within the communities of Southampton.  The Wellbeing Fund aims to reduce gaps in provision for the most socially, economically and geographically excluded individuals and groups and create innovative approaches for future service development.

Since 2008, 24 projects have been funded through the Active Southampton Well Being Fund with many members of the community benefiting from new physical activity projects.

The following organisations who can apply for the Active Southampton Well Being Fund are:
• Registered charities
• Other voluntary and community groups
• Statutory bodies
• Charitable-not for profit companies
• Private organisations
• Social enterprises

Chances 4 Change have identified 13 priority groups and your project must involve at least 1 of the priority groups identified below and the application must demonstrate involvement in the consultation and the planning process of the project with the selected priority group(s).  The 13 priority groups for the Active Southampton Well Being Fund are:

• Disadvantaged families, especially those living in communities with little statutory, voluntary and community sector support
• Socially isolated older people
• Vulnerable young people, including young people excluded from school, teenage parents and young offenders
• Vulnerable children and families, including Looked After children
• Black and Minority ethnic groups
• People at risk of coronary heart disease, musculo-skeletal diseases, respiratory diseases and / or diabetes
• People at risk of Mental Health problems
• Offenders and ex-offenders
• Homeless
• People with physical or learning disabilities
• Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender
• Refugees and asylum seekers
•  Travellers

The deadline for the submission of application to Active Southampton is as follows:
Window 1 – Between 1st - 30th June 2010
Window 2 – Between 1st – 29th October 2010
All projects must start before 31st March 2011.

Each project can apply for up to £5,000 however it is likely Active Southampton would distribute the grant across several projects as opposed to one big project.
